Overall, an interesting rifle in good condition. The bore is still bright but has frosting and minor pinpricking throughout, mostly concentrated toward the muzzle. The securing screw also appears to be replaced as well. The top of the receiver is marked "BURNSIDE PATENT MARCH 25TH 1856" and serial number "25397". The right-hand tang is marked "BURNSIDE Co PROVIDENCE R.I.". Top of receiver marked 'Burnside Patent/Modelof 1864,' lock plate marked 'Burnside Rifle Co./Providence R.I. 54 caliber, serial number 11150, all visible numbers matching. There is splotchy thinning/finish loss, patina, and pinpricking oxidation throughout the rifle. This is the Burnside single shot percussion carbine, Model 1864, aka '5th model'. Civil War era Parts or Project Burnside Rifle Company Model 1864 Breech-Loading Percussion Carbine. The metal has retained about half of its original blued finish. Typically referred to as a Fourth Model and similar in that the patent date appears on late Fourth Model examples, this example has a guide-screw on the right hand-side of the receiver that prevents the loading block from dropping out of the action.
